I've got a baby in me

20 Weeks

This week marks the halfway point! At 129 I’ve only gained a total of 4 pounds from my official pre-pregnancy weight. I’ve been feeling the baby move around a lot, not specifically what I imagine kicking feeling like, but more like a lot of pressure in one spot. He also seems to be responding to warmth, before I get in the shower in the morning, my stomach is fairly soft and flat, but after a hot shower it has turned into a really obvious hard ball like he’s trying to push himself as close to the surface of my stomach as possible.

We’ve really got to start getting our house into shape, we have so much space to choose from for a baby’s room, but at this point none of it is useable. I think we’ll put him in the room that I’m currently using for my closet, but before we do that we have to get a carpenter in here to combine the closet in the guest bedroom with the closet in our bedroom so we’ll have enough space for our clothes combined. We also need to organize Daryn’s office so its actually comfortable for him to work in. My new big idea is to turn our bedroom into a den where we can keep all the baby stuff that inevitably accumulates. We can use the combined closets in that room as a little enclosed office for Daryn. We can put a couch and the tv in there and it could be a really cozy set up. Then we can turn the room that is currently Daryn’s office into our bedroom. I think I really like this plan, but I haven’t really suggested it to Daryn and usually the best way to break my crazy ideas to him is through the internet.

We’ve also been trying to pick out a boys name. The girls name was pretty easy, Ruby Lucille for our paternal grandmothers. I like the name but I’m a little sad at how popular Ruby really is these days, I hear it at least once a week and I’m not even exposed to kids that much. This has just been at the grocery store or walking down the street or standing in line to vote. For a boy I really really really like Harvey Macgregor, but Daryn hates Harvey. I also really like Macgregor as a first name, so maybe we’ll name him entirely after my Grandpa and go for Macgregor Allan. Daryn’s choices so far sounded like jokes to me when he first suggested them. Like Elvis, for instance, is one of his favorites. I just won’t do that. We both really liked either Hank or Cash before I was even pregnant, and I could still do either of those.

I guess we still have a few more months to decide.
